I want a hidey hole on the second floor.

I dream of that room which only has enough space for one of those desks that converts to a full size bed. Perfect for all night writing sessions--and maybe a wall of shelves.

Anyone ever come across architectural plans for an add on to a ranch-style house? Pictures will do too, to feed my imagination.

I think I have more space to work with over the kitchen. It also has a better view. Baitball Blogger Mar 2013 #7

...walk-in closets? I'm claustrophobic, so your 'hidey hole' is a terrifying idea to me.

Gimme spaces, wide open and uncluttered! No unnecessary doors (I can't sit with my back to a door, so too many doors would mean my main chair would have to be a Sit-n-Spin).

Walk-in closets don't normally have window seats. I think you want a tower. We can call you Rap Unzel.

Aren't you worried about pirates?

1) Professional contractor to raise the roof, if needed, and stud the side walls....$20,000 at most.

2) Master electrician to install boxes and fixtures.....$3,000 at most.

3) Local under the table drywall installer including materials. Have them do the windows and doors too.....$5,000.

4) Subfloor installation by local person....$1,000.

5) Carpet and paint.....$1,000

Now, you know that extra $30,000 you have laying around?

edited----oooops...read your reply wrong....thought you were talking about going over the garage. Sorry.

We shared a room that was BARELY large enough to put down a twin bed matress. Note: I didn't mind the sharing part. My 4 1/2' boa dominated the "closet", but the "room" was itself little more than a closet. There was about 18" from the matress to the wall on the side and MAYBE 24" at the bottom. We learned how to sleep REALLY close together!!!

I don't know about architectural plans for what you're looking for, but PLEASE go for more room in the addition!
