(56,828 posts)Loved the line from his mother, "she's just like me - short & stacked."
Bernadette didn't marry him for his looks, though, and he was the most obnoxious of the four guys. It was funny when her old boyfriend was played by former basketball player Rick Fox, who is like 6'6" tall. (Oddly, I have two cousins that are about 5'1" - very petite - and one married a guy that is only a little taller than her, and the other married a guy that's like 6'2" or 6'3"

(66,316 posts)But there's someone for everyone, I guess...
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)he's a smart guy on the show, but she is as well, if not smarter than him... and, she has a great, high-paying job, and he does not. He is kind of obnoxious, though he's not as bad as before, and she's usually a sweetheart. Maybe he makes her laugh more than previous boyfriends? Sex maybe? Plus, when they first introduced her, she was kind of nerdy, too, so maybe he helped her come out of her nerdy shell? (Still, she was a "hot" nerd even then...) They've certainly made it clear on the show several times that he should hang on to Bernadette as tightly as he can...
Ikonoklast
(23,973 posts)Marvin was a nice guy but a bit of a Jewish nerd, kinda socially awkward, prematurely bald, lived with his Mom until he got married.
Thought he was a typical Mama's boy, until I met his wife at a party.
Holy crap.
Marvin must have had some real game, she was smart, came from a wealthy family, and was a knockout, and I mean a Jane Russell knockout.
The guys in my department were speechless when Marv brought her over to our table.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)while I'm not Jewish, I was kind of a shy, socially awkward nerdy guy - though, I did move out in my mid 20s, and I still have a full head of hair in my mid 40s. I didn't date until my senior year of college I was so shy... yet, my ex-wife was extremely outgoing and quite attractive (if Bernadette had auburn hair, she'd almost be a clone of my ex). Then, a few years later, I got remarried to a woman that was also extremely attractive. (and, my wife makes more than me as well, sort of like Bernadette making more than Howard.)
So, sometimes, the nerdy guy can do well for himself.
caraher
(6,278 posts)Nothing against the actress who plays Penny, but Melissa is cute and funny and plays a character with brains. No contest in my book! Strangely, my wife doesn't agree...
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)and this is just anecdotal, but a woman that is petite and attractive seems to be generally more appealing to men, while a woman that is taller and attractive generally tends to be more appealing to women. There are plenty of exceptions either way, though.
Of course, Bernadette being a PhD in microbiology and a high paying job makes her even more appealing to me as a character than Penny. (BTW, the woman playing Amy Farrah Fowler on the show - Mayim Bialek of "Blossom" fame is a real life PhD in neuroscience)

watched their documentary recently. I had no idea how horrible their family life was when they were children until I watched the show. They were incredibly talented young people . . . so sad.
I was a very young child when their songs were popular, but the boys were all so cute! Bob is in his 60's now I believe, but he is one handsome man!
I had to download the song 'Hair' after watching the documentary . . . can't get that song out of my head now!
(Sorry no pic . . . having trouble uploading it).
Edited to add recent video of 'Hair' . . . Bob is the lead singer in the red shirt.

(32,079 posts)I got stuck in the Cardio Cinema at my gym a few months ago, and they were showing "Cowboys VS. Aliens". It was a horrible movie, made even worse by the fact that they killed off Adam Beach's character. What the hell were he, Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig (speaking of a couple of other hotties) thinking when they signed onto that one?
