$8000 is not nearly enough.

(53,339 posts)Disneyland staff were able to evacuate all other riders, but left a disabled, paraplegic man with anxiety issues alone and stranded on the ride. If there had been a more serious emergency--like a fire--I doubt you'd be so insensitive to this man's predicament.

(6,234 posts)People are stranded on rides all the time. Sometimes for hours, and in positively nightmarish places. This guy was stuck floating in a boat listening to music for a half hour. If you ask any of the people cooking outside in the queue whether or not they would have rather been floating inside guess what your answer would have been.
The staff no doubt left him there because it was safer than trying to remove him. He was never in any danger and he was not harmed by the experience. He filed a suit because he hoped he would get a little cash out of the deal. Eight grand is not a lot when it comes to stupid lawsuits, but it's a lot of money none the less. It's a half year's wages for the average Walmart employee. A grand would be too much.
At best he deserved a free pass or two to the park.

(6,234 posts)People actually are stranded on rides all the time. Not kiddie rides where they are chilling in a boat for a half-hour, but hundreds of feet in the air and in some cases actually upside-down. And where this guy was handed eight thousand dollars for his "ordeal," they usually get a free pass to the park or some free ride tickets.
Rides get stuck and malfunction all the time. Every day it happens somewhere. When it does, and the riders are safe (as they almost always are) they are left in place until they can be safely removed. In this case the Disney people felt that it was easier and safer to leave him where he was -- most likely because they knew the ride would be up and moving relatively quickly. He was stranded for a half hour. Big deal? Hardly.
Here's some links to a handful of other ride malfunctions:
The 12 people on board the Superman Ultimate Flight roller coaster, which had just opened June 30, were left sitting 150 feet up in the air for two hours
Tavares and the 11 other passengers each received a free season pass to the amusement park and a fast pass that enables them to skip the lines at future visits

24 riders were trapped on "The Stratosphere," a 200-foot-tall tower
the riders became stuck at nearly 200 feet in the air when the ride lost power at about 9:11 p.m
Riders were reportedly brought to the ground shortly before 11:30.

DES MOINES, IOWA -- Rescue crews worked to free two people who became stuck on a carnival ride at the Iowa State Fair when it malfunctioned Monday afternoon.
The young adults were stuck on the ride, in which they were strapped into a seat and shot up into the air connected to an elastic band. They were about 60 feet in the air.

Recently adventure and thrill seekers riding the Mumbo Jumbo" Roller coaster at Flamingo Land Park suddenly came to a stop in the middle of one of the loops leaving them dangling upside down approximately 50 feet off the ground. They were stuck up there for approximately 20 minutes before being freed from the ride by theme park workers.
