This happened a couple of weeks ago. I had a leftover Salty Dog (vodka and ruby red grapefruit juice) that I had left on the table in the family room. I went back into the studio for a few hours and when I came out, found my newest cat, Alaska, lapping up my leftover drink like there was no tomorrow. The next morning I noticed Alaska, laying on her back, hind legs spread eagle and sound asleep. She even let me pet her which she RARELY does. She remained that way most of the rest of the day. I checked her for fever, for vomiting, diarrhea, etc. and nothing. She was OK the day after that so I can only surmise she had a hangover.

A Salty Dog is a cocktail of gin and grapefruit juice, served in a highball glass with a salted rim. The salt is the only difference between a Salty Dog and a Greyhound. Vodka may be used as a substitute for gin; nevertheless, it is historically a gin drink.

(22,271 posts)The correct name is "Greyhound with a twist." I had an ex-bartender who told me it was a Salty Dog which was apparently incorrect. I prefer the mellow, happy effect vodka has on me at the end of a day. Particularly coupled with some nice ganja.

(22,239 posts)One of my cats loves Doritos. She's picky too. Place a piece of chicken or pork in front of her and she'll sniff and walk away, but if you have a bowl of Doritos, she WILL nag you to death for some.

(39,961 posts)so it may not be the vodka. Mine is NUTS over grapefruit, and since I eat it a lot, she has ample opportunity to steal it from my breakfast.

(15,800 posts)we had a cat that found his way into the drawer where we kept, um, stuff in baggies. We came home to find him with remnants on his whiskers and the shredded baggie still between his paws. He seemed to have some difficulty focussing, and went into that crouching crawling mode as he stalked and attacked the patterns in the carpet. After a few hours of this he went to sleep and stayed that way for about twenty hours. The only aftereffect seemed to be a pronounced aversion to baggies, the mere sight of which sent him hiding under the nearest bed.
