Question about movies

Ok. I know that they did away with intermissions (damn I wish that they would bring them back.) But a friend was asking me didn't there use to be a name before the movie started? She said that she thinks it starts with the letter "A".

I can't seem to remember and can not find anything on the internet.

thanks

I actually don't know.

Is it the thing that happens during a Double Feature?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_feature

-One or more live acts
-An animated cartoon short subject
-One or more live-action comedy shorts (e.g., Our Gang, Laurel and Hardy, or The Three Stooges)
-One or more novelty shorts: a musical, a travelogue, etc.
-A newsreel
-The main feature film

There's an Overture -- played before the movie was set to start (don't ask me how this worked with previews)

...and there was an Intermission/Entr'acte. Usually, ths music would rise in pitch and intensity to signal the patrons that it was time to snuff out their cigarettes and get back in from the lobby.
