Does the copyright law apply to Op Ed pieces?

By that I mean are you limited to about 4 paragraphs to an excerpt from OP Eds? I looked on the internet and could not find anything on Op Ed pieces and copyright protection.

While I'm at it, what about statements made by someone being interviewed on a televised program - copyright protected?

Usually the terms are specified somewhere on the site you are clipping from.

Some authors and publishers give permission to publish the full work, but most will limit to a fair use excerpt.

On the internet, from fair use to free to copy, a link back to the original is always the ethical thing to do.
