The Holy Hand of Father Arrowsmith

There persisted a belief in Lancashire that the touch of Father Arrowsmith's severed right hand could cure a variety of complaints. A poor woman named Catherine Collins was given leave from the work house to see if the hand could cure her paralyzed side. The outcome of this encounter is not recorded. They Holy Hand was kept by the Roman Catholic priest at Garswood and was preserved in a white silk bag. Father Arrowsmith, condemned to die, had his attendant cut off his right hand, believing it would work cures in the future.
The relic is now housed at The Catholic Church of St Oswald and St Edmund Arrowsmith, located on Liverpool Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Greater Manchester, England.
