Mind you, if I was in public at a restaurant or some other place with others watching I do use a fork. But in general if I'm sitting somewhere that no one can see me I just prefer using my fingers.
My salad is pretty simple - romaine lettuce, carrots, cucumbers and broccoli with dressing on the side. It's just easier to eat with my fingers.
Anyone else have some weird eating habits.
Oh I have never EVER put milk on cereal. Just hate how it gets soggy (I instead drink the milk from a glass). I do use a spoon with my cereal

(95,337 posts)and in most arab and muslim nations, they normally eat with their hands. And get this, they only eat with their right hand because the left hand is considered unclean because it's used for bodily functions. So if you are left handed you really would have to try and eat with your right hand else you could offend someone.

(1,858 posts)I find it easier to drink the broth from the container and use the fork for the wontons.

(39,343 posts)I have a friend who eats everything with a fork and knife. I once saw him eat a snickers bar on a plate with a fork and butter knife. Pizza, fork and knife. Fried chicken, fork and knife...

In the end I am eating my veggies, my salads run about half a pound in weight!

(25,586 posts)and many other "finger foods." Even burritos get the knife and fork treatment. I hate the sensation of food residue on my hands, even for a moment.

Years ago, a bunch of women and I ate a pan of brownies. We didn't have a knife, much less a fork, plates or napkins (camping). So, we just dug in with our hands and ate them...all of them. They were the best brownies I've ever had. I was curious whether or not it had to do with the company and surroundings, so I started eating some things with my hands. I discovered that not only did food taste better, but I ate slower, enjoyed the actual act of eating tremendously and was in a better mood afterward. Yes, it's messy, but I think we've literally lost touch with our food. Maybe that's why junk food is so popular. If more people were told it's okay to eat salad with their hands, maybe they'd do it more often.
I did have an odd experience with ice cream, but it was still a lot more fun than using a spoon.

(78,249 posts)They hadn't brought the forks out yet (yes, salad at the office barbecue. It IS California, after all. ). So I ate it with my fingers, like a slob.

(41,933 posts)M&Ms in particular I even up the colors first, so if I have more reds I'll even it, until I have the same number of each then I rotate from warm to cold colors, keeping the numbers even as I go, til they're gone.
And no, I don't know why. They're better that way.

(3,919 posts)i eat my salad - one leaf at a time with my fingers. i eat it more slowly and really do enjoy it more in this manner - than on a plate with dressing smeared everywhere with a fork. if i'm in a very formal setting or i get the vibe, i will use a salad fork.

(95,337 posts)I like to have a taste of dressing with each bite. To ensure that with one of my salads I need a ton of salad dressing to make sure it's covered. But then I get wilted veggies which I also detest. Better to put it on the side and dip a tip of my salad in the dressing with each bite.
It makes me enjoy my salad even moreso

(1,092 posts)with their hands...drives me nuts ! Mindful eating is one thing, taking one's time is ok. But examining a radish before you munch, and perhaps putting it back and picking up a bean... disgusting unless you are doing a marijuana testing also. Use a fork then.
