ANXIOUSLY awaiting my Swiss Army Knife replacement (clipped by airport security on 5/12)...

OK, so I haven't flown in D-E-C-A-D-E-S.

Parked in the "Economy" lot at McCarren Airport in Vegas.

Took the shuttle to my terminal.

Got in line for screening and realized I had not taken out my Swiss Army Knife, which is in my pants pocket 24/7 x 365.

"Do you want me to dispose of this, sir?"

MY ASS!

It was in PERFECT condition, if this fucker DID NOT just take it HOME, it went into the big bucket of stuff these bastards post and sell on eBay (my brother in law worked at San Francisco Int'l Airport, and yes, this is EXACTLY what happens to things they confiscate).

ANYWAY...the replacement...the "Spartan," pictured below, is on its way, due today or tomorrow.

I wanted a new one, and the bidding thing on eBay...for me...is a pain in the ass.

I have found a couple knives tucked away in my bags after clearing tsa checkpoints. I even found a mag with 7 rounds of .45acp from my 1911 that I removed after a trip before flying. The tsa misses a lot.

Economy parking at the airport cost me $80 ($10 x 8 days)...round-trip gas to the airport was $35...and I kicked in $160 toward my plane ticket.

They let you bring on a duffel bag or something similar that will fit under your seat at no cost. That's what I did. They confiscated two SEALED 12 ounce bottles of WATER because they said that in order for me to bring them on the plane, they would have to be frozen solid.

Got a tattoo while in Colorado:

...and as such had a tube of curel in my bag. They confiscated THAT on the way back, telling me it had to be 3 ounces or under.

time before flying, because I actually bought it in Switzerland and I'd be indescribably pissed to lose it to TSA...

(I have an equally pathetic attachment to the far older Swiss Army knife that I carried through all of my Boy Scout days - I'd probably miss a flight rather than lose either of them.)

but not as heavy as a tank. i have had the the same style for over 30 years. the other one i had prior was of so much sentimental value - i had it for 8 or nine years. it was with me through college, my wilderness wanderings, forest service years, and my baby's toddler years.

While I could have had it added to my checked baggage and/or mailed it home...I was minutes away from missing a connecting flight and couldn't be bothered with the delay.

:sigh:

At this point I cannot afford the expense to replace it, but loved that pocket knife.

Enjoy your replacement!

It's not much more bulky. And I use that "hook" thing for zip-line getaways.

These were carried by carriage drivers. Note the Damascus steel on the bottom. A friend of mine makes custom knives.
While rummaging through some of my junk he noticed an old horse shoe rasp and asked to keep it. A week later it came back to me as a beautiful (and large) knife in a copper sheath.

Hi,
I think I have one of those, the grey thing is tweezers and the other side is a white plastic toothpick? At least that is what I used it for.

Peace
