I've been retired for five years (already??? where did all the time go?). The choices of activities are wonderful when you aren't bound by "work hours". The Seattle International Film Festival just ended yesterday -- 21 days of over 400 movies. I attended 25 of them. When selecting the ones I wanted to see, factoring in work hours wasn't part of it. What freedom!!

Same for doctor, dentist, hair, and other appointments. Free to take whatever is available. And don't forget personal time -- time to watch TV, read a book, take naps, take walks, visit with friends, etc.

After a while, you'll wonder when you ever had the time to work.

That is what people tell me. I have a lot of projects planned that I have put off for years. I know I will find plenty to do.

And not having to get a late afternoon appointment, or take a half sick day, will be such a relief, too.

and do something as if you were playing hookey from school.
Or go back to sleep - who cares.

Congratulations and welcome to the club.
Sadly we may be the last generation that can retire.

Well tomorrow is the first day, so I plan to sleep late and have a leisurely day. I don't want to become a slug though. Actually, I want to start walking in the mornings and work on my many projects that are screaming to be completed! And a nap is a daily requirement!

Yes, I plan to take French over again in the fall at the community college. I had 4 years in HS and 2 in college, but have forgotten most of it. And then I want to go to Paris!! Vive la France! It is my life-long dream.

You will, I promise you. I never expected to get here either, but time has a way of catching up with us.

For one thing, I plan to spend a lot more time in the Lounge! LOL

If I get lazy or my brains turn to mush, I will come to you for a swift kick in the posterior!

I started collecting Social Security a few years back, but it's not enough to pay my bills. Working weed eating in 95 degrees is not a job I want, but it's a job I can get. Hope you have a good retirement plan and don't spend all day reading DU posts.... There is a world out there you can get engaged with.

I was a public school teacher (unionized, TG) for many years, so I have a very nice pension. I deferred my SS, so I have that, too. We will be OK, thanks so much.

Right now, I just want to cocoon in my house. I will emerge eventually, but I have a lot to catch up on at home.

Best wishes to you.
