Weeks-old kitty rescued from storm drain

The ending was a happy one, but the start was anything but.

First the weeks-old kitten with a tortoise shell coat almost got hit by a car on Northwest Sixth Street. Then the frightened feline ended up falling down a stormwater drain.

It took an hour and some sweaty, dirty work by police and workers from Alachua County Animal Services to fetch the kitten from underground, but mission finally accomplished.

The saga started early Thursday afternoon when Loren Rose and Chelsea Schubiger, co-workers at a clinic for autistic children, were turning west onto Sixth Avenue from Sixth Street and almost hit the kitten.

I'm unable to post the photos for some reason...she's a cute little tortie.

She also has the white on the chin and I always think she's eaten too quickly and gotten food there!
