"And a fuck for the Bishop of Cork!"

In 1617, Brown, the Bishop of Cork, wrote a treatise to persuade his countrymen from the idolatrous practice of drinking toasts to persons and memories. Instead of abating, he inflamed a protective rage for the custom of toasting, to which the drinkers tacked on the following rider: "And a fuck for the Bishop of Cork!"
