He was always the outsider in NYC, considered a country bumpkin by the police chief for his laid-back style. McCloud always had to prove himself with every episode and seeing how he would prove the police chief wrong for doubting him was part of the fun in following the storyline. Walker was like Superman, obviously righteous to all around him and only needing to show up and set himself against the bad guys to eventually prevail.
