Orange City firefighters help Hampton Hills community rescue kitten from storm drain

DEBARY – Neighbors in Hampton Hills Estates pulled together May 29 to rescue a kitten stuck in a storm drain.

Resident Marianne Ruggles said she and her neighbors had been hearing a kitten crying for several days. They discovered the kitten had somehow gotten inside a storm drain.

Ruggles said the storm drain is deep, so when they couldn’t get to the kitten, “the neighbors were throwing food down.”

They even lowered a bed sheet, hoping the kitten would climb out.
