Toad Lore part 2

It was believed that somewhere, a toad lived who had a huge jewel in his head. If someone could acquire that jewel, he would hold all the knowledge in the world including the words God spoke to form the universe. It would also confer immortality on whomever found it.

Carrying the bones of a toad gave one power over animals. In Cambridgeshire, a secret society of Toadmen were highly skilled and sought after horse trainers.

The toad was also associated with evil and thought to be an embodiment of the devil. Its bones were believed to have the power to summon thunderstorms.


It was believed that under diabolic influence toads could grow to enormous size.
