Strange Dream

This evening I fell asleep during Hawaii 5-0, just as they were closing in on a murderous female real estate agent. I usually use the 7" tv as a radio while I'm busy about other things, which include far too much reading.

Although I was sawing logs while Criminal Minds was on, I guess all this affected my dream: I thought I'd just bought a house on stilts (all the recent flood news stories) and when I moved in, I had to evict several homeless people who'd been camping underneath. Made me feel bad. They weren't threatening or anything. I don't know how the story turned out because IRL the kids started shooting firecrackers in the alley behind my actual house and the dogs started barking and woke me up.

Both dogs love people, but Brigid flies into a rage when firecrackers and other such things start. She runs all over trying to capture and kill anything that looks/sounds like it might land in our yard. I bring the dogs indoors as soon as that madness starts. Last year a very nice young high school graduate preparing to leave for college got one eye put out by his own bottle rocket. People around here aren't safety minded at all - they build deep above ground backyard pools and leave them uncovered with the ladder still pulled up when there's no adult around.

I know one place that has a car repair shop in back, and they leave a working refrigerator in the the yard where a little kid could climb in and suffocate. Sets my damn-Yankee teeth on edge. They also build big bonfires of leaves in the fall and just leave them burning while the flames leap 5-tall along the curb. One lady's house burned down that way several years ago, but it doesn't seem to have inspired any second thoughts.
