HOLMBERG: Tiptop kitten rescue from Richmond I-95 bridge takes the cake

RICHMOND, Va. — There’s a tradition in the Richmond Fire Department: any first-time achievement by a rookie means he or she has to buy cake and ice cream for the whole firehouse.

Newbie firefighter Betty Migliaccio figures she’ll be buying a ton of cake and ice cream: She had her first save; her first all-the-way out (75-foot) ladder rescue and – the most rib-worthy occurrence – her first TV interview as a firefighter.

I can't fathom it. The little kitty was either tossed or somehow got out of moving vehicle on I95. AND THEN...She isn't immediately run over, but evidently falls between the cracks. AND THEN.......doesn't plunge 75 feet to her death, but lands on a pillar. AND THEN...someone just happens to be under the bridge. AND THEN.... that person actually hears her squeaky meow above the din of the traffic. AND THEN....the person who hears her, is caring enough to call the fire department. What are the odds for all those circumstances coming together so that poor little kitty is saved and adopted. Unbelievable.
