Rumor Has It

from Dave Mason ...
On good first hand authority (must remain anonymous) the answer to the Carly Simon 'You're So Vain...' question is: CAT STEVENS. He was so vain... Not Mick, Warren, Geffen, or James... Cat! She wrote 'Anticipation' about him too!

Carly Simon's 'You're So Vain was about David Steinberg. It was just explained in the documentary "Quality Balls" about Steinberg which is now on Showtime.

Apparently Steinberg lived in the same building as Simon for some years as they were coming up in the business, and it was explained that since he was such a hip and natty dresser, the You're so vain song came about.

Off topic, but another thing I learned in the documentary.....finally......was that Steinberg's sermon joke on the Smothers Brothers show was why it was canceled and the brothers were banned from TV for awhile.
