I encountered several people that day whose lives I could have changed from despair to dignity. One was the meat counter person at my Kroger store. She told me that she works three jobs to feed her kids and that in her ten years at Kroger she has gotten exactly 70 cents in raise!!!

Next was a young man on the bus. He was with a young woman who was obviously a meth addict. But he had none of the signs of that addiction. He just looked so sad and despairing. I was compelled to speak to him. I said "Something is telling me to tell you to take care of yourself. Are you alright?" Tears came to his eyes. All I could say was "I care."

And an older man who obviously had been to the food bank for an emergency box. He sported a Christmas corsage on his jacket. Bless him.

What a thrill it would be to win a lottery and be able to act with random kindness to those who struggle and despair.
