of what to expect from a zombie bite?

(1,681 posts)If your talking about a Z-movie where attacks have previously taken place then I get your point. Most Z movies start out with the premise that such a thing has never, ever happened before. Therefore, the "change" is always unexpected.
In fact in The Walking Dead, the dead are never, ever referred to as "zombies".

(46,576 posts)I just saw a zombie movie where there was not one actor over the age of thirty or under 24 years of age. All that wandering around city streets and no indications that anyone outside of the private party of "cool" people that introduced the movie existed at all.
The same problem would exist in any contemporary zombie movie, because you know there will be a great number of us geeks who survived long enough to point out the similarities.

(1,681 posts)1. Hollywood likes to put pretty people in their movies so, under 30 and in their 20's is the sweet spot.
2. Geeks that are fit enough or have fit people to fight for them is also a "type" for the movies.
So yeah, the cool people get to live/survive a bit longer & everyone else is z-bait. Sounds about right.

(63,086 posts)I only watched about five episodes and basically couldn't stand the show--and I LOVE the zombie genre.
The fact that they go out of their way to call them anything but "zombies" seems preposterous, even accepting the undeniably preposterous premise of that particular universe.
I mean, I'm cool with the idea that a zombie outbreak has never occurred before, but it also demands that many decades of cinematic history never happened, not to mention pulp horror fiction stretching back even farther.
If I'm about to be attacked by a zombie, and the guy across the street sees that it's about to happen, I don't want him to shout a handful of elegant descriptors simply so that he can avoid using the one word that's instantly recognized.

(1,681 posts)They have no zombie fiction or zombie mythos to draw knowledge from. It's a totally new experience for them and it makes the entire catastrophe true horror because it's an unknown phenomena. There is no history, cinematic or otherwise at all in the TWD world. None, zip, nada.
Therefore, the word itself, "zombie" does/could not exist in THD. See?

(63,086 posts)Ditto for the characters, dialogue and pacing, but YMMV.
Every time I watched it and went "meh," the diehard fans told me to keep watching. Well, if I can't be inspired to care about any of the character after five episodes, then the show has failed.
Of course, the first five episodes were stretched over what--two seasons? That probably didn't help either.

(1,681 posts)Comic readers have somewhat of an inside track as to what is coming. Naturally, some changes have been made to make the series more palatable (drama) for the viewing public. The creator of TWD has stated, that no one is "safe" and no one escapes damage. Well, true to his word he's been BRU-tal with his creations.
IMO it seems that he's not character building as much as going for more, "Oh hell no!" "That did not just happen to him/her"kind of moments. It's a tad bit different from usual tv dramas. But yes, the series gets bogged down to a crawl with all the "acting" and not nearly enough shooting, bashing & stabby-stab action.

(8,217 posts)What if such a thing were to happen in Halloween?
Also, what kind of Zomboid? The slow or fast moving one?
Slow moving ones, you have more of a chance, fast moving ones, oh goodness, imagine a human without a pain limiter, they would go faster and longer than most athlete nowadays.
It is definitely an interesting concept though, you could probably pitch the idea on figuring out the response and mobilization time of the government.

It's like we're in the Victorian age of the zombie genre.

(8,217 posts)I think the reason for that, is really cost.
There are studios that are specifically made for zombies already.
To cut costs they hire those guys and that is pretty much it.
If you're talking about good looking zombies, or younger folk, I can say that I've seen a few cheer leader zombies, kid zombies and stuff like that. Other than that, you would probably have to go to the movies to see such a thing.
SyFy even had a small documentary about a town that companies just shoot in since it is already pre-made.

(46,576 posts)It did just occur to me after I posted, that it makes it easier to produce a movie if the zombies are fully clothed because it would require actors with a near-anorexic look to pull off a convincing nekkid zombie.

(4,851 posts)Which has been optioned as both films and/or TV. These are great books in this genre, which I hope get made into a film trilogy. The main character is a girl named Georgia, which is the most popular name in the post-zobie world as an homoge to Mr. Romero for giving the world a great deal of foresite in how to beat the monsters. There are a few others that deal with zombies like this, but I find it FAR better to watch a world deal with the concept for what it is, completely impossible and yet happening.

(46,576 posts)I think that we are at a point where writers are going to have to take it to the next level.
But, we still have World War Z to see realized on film. That's the next big project.

As I've already stated here, this trope doesn't really bother me: I'm just wondering why that is the model.
