Everyone knew what "grass roots" referred to (not a political expression). My parents loved Jimmy Durante.

Nothing to add beyond a rec, except that I wish I could go back to that era to enjoy the music alone when it was fresh and exciting. Here's a live performance of the Troggs from 1967 doing the flip side of Wild Thing, the tune From Home. I love the chunky primitive sound Chris Britton got on his guitar and the octave lick was very cool. Very under-rated and better than the "A" side. A big influence on punk rock that came afterwards.
