husband is from virginia (williamsburg-ish) and his jewmas present was a plane ticket home for his birthday next month. my in-laws offered to get me a ticket to come with him and i got the flight booked today.
my east coast experience is limited to nyc, so it'll be nice to see something new. i know colonial williamsburg is going to be kitchy, touristy nonsense, but i'm excited for it nonetheless. we'll head to richmond for a day, try to get together with my aunt in va beach and his mom wants to do a full christmas.
of course, there's a down side. i have horrible flight anxiety and haven't been on a plane in six years, so i'm already tightening up about it.
but i'm so excite!

(56,582 posts)It's beautiful. Williamsburg is, IMHO, not as good as Mt. Vernon, but if that's the part of the state you're in it's pretty good. And VA Beach is great, especially in the winter. My favorite Japanese steakhouse is there.

(50,130 posts)It's not a Disneyland. History really truly did happen there, and the preservation of the buildings and the representations of the people and crafts are authentic.
Some of the happiest times of my life have been at Colonial Williamsburg. But then I was in excellent company. But it is something special.
Be sure to try some food there! The taverns are fun. The rum punch is a good way to feel colonial. Ha!

(55,007 posts)as for flying - it sucks so bad you probably won't have "time" to feel anxiety because of the irritations
