phone home help

Some friends gave me this phone so that I might upgrade to something I can actually see. By the time I remembered to plug it in and charge it, they'd already left on vacation. I need to be able to access its identifying stuff in order to have my number transferred to it, but danged if I can figure it out. And the battery cover defies my every effort to remove it.

Anybody got any experience with this particular beastie? Pleeeeeeze???

Interesting exploration of the thing. It did help me figure out how to get the battery cover off! Between my trifocals and a magnifying glass I was able to decipher some sets of numbers that I hope will meet the requirements of the network. Thank you!

There's usually a sub-menu for accessing serial/ID numbers. When you find them, write them down so you'll have them handy when activating/transferring your old phone number.

I've taken that tour for a couple of hours, now. I wish the different brands used a common vocabulary for their stuff! There's a bunch of different number series and "codes", but I have no idea what they are referring to. Will try again tomorrow when I'm a bit more awake. Thanks, by the way.

Well, after all that -- after finally getting into the thing and finding the serial number, etc., it turns out that this particular phone is not compatible with the service I'm using, even though I had initially been told that anything Verizon-friendly would work. It took several online attempts to switch it, then a sort-of conversation with one of their techs who transferred me upline to another tech who had me repeat all the steps and then informed me of the device's incompatibility.

So, thanks everybody. Your efforts are still much appreciated!
