The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWell, my dog died this morning.
We first met about thirteen years ago. A woman was having some small problems in magistrate's court and I represented her. She said she didn't have mich money but she had a pregnant dog. A few weeks later we drove out to her house and there were only two puppies left from the litter, miniature schnauzers. The kids were all excited and picked out the gray one. We named her Fee-Fee. As we were leaving we all said at the same time, "We can't leave the black one all alone!" So we went back and I bought him from the woman. We named him Cash. He's still fine. We're all fine. But she was a sweet little dog and it's sad.
Fee-Fee was nothing at all like this dog, but the sentiment is exact. Thanks, Neiil.

May the good memories sustain you always.

I hope Fee-Fee meets up with them in Schnauzer heaven.

(36,649 posts)because, unlike children who turn into adults in their teen years, when a dog gets into his teens he dies of old age. So you spend a decade and a half building an affinity for this weird little creature, only to have its life extinguished.
Maybe that's why we love them: because their lives aren't lengthy, logical or deliberate, but an explosive paradox composed of fur, teeth and enthusiasm.
And you'll never meet a person who is so genuinely happy to be with you.

(204,698 posts)I adopt older animals and it never gets any easier. It sounds like you've given both pups a wonderful life, especially since you kept them together. My heart goes out to Cash too, experienced that when we lost one dog and her devoted brother was left behind as well. That was heartbreaking. Fee Fee was so very fortunate that she had you...

Wishing you strength.

Thank you all again.
We brought her to a crematorim this morning and my daughter, who knew her since she was conscious, is picking out a small urn online.
The curious thing is there was a room with two ovens for humans and a smaller room with a smaller oven for pets. She was eleven pounds. They charged by the pound. Who knew?
