(20,131 posts)His father had his first heart attack when he was 36 and the second, that killed him, when he was 57. Dave had an emergency quintuple bypass when he was 52. I remember when he had his doctors and nurses on the show and introduced them as "the people who saved my life".

(204,695 posts)I was a regular viewer, was even in the studio audience back in 2008, and though I like Stephen Colbert, I still miss Dave. One thing that impressed me when I was there in person was the way he treated his studio audience. He came out and talked with us before the show started, answered questions and made jokes, and made a special effort to come out after the show was over to thank us. After all those years, he didn't need to do that, but he was a class act and he did.
