Colorado: Everyone surviving the storm?

The HMO clinic where I work actually closed at 1:00 p.m. They NEVER close but the roads were too hazardous for both patients and employees. This is the heaviest, wettest snow I can remember in a long while and it's not over. I should have seen it coming. It was 72 F yesterday. Anytime it's 72 around here in March, look out!

1. Got up at 4:00 this morning, walked the dog in high winds & heavy heavy snow (already in Ft Collins)

and waited only as long as it took for Denver, Aurora, Jeffco public schools and a few governmental agencies to announce they were closed before deciding conclusively to call out (today was supposed to be a Denver day for me, workwise). By the time I'd made the call, I-287 to WY border was closed and that northern stretch of I-25 was soon to follow. A few hours later, DIA closed and all interstates had at least some stretch of closure. Shortly thereafter, the chain law was put into place (not just for I-70 to the mountains, as would be expected) but in DENVER METRO. This is really unheard of in the many decades I'd lived here.

NOw, if you knew me, you'd know that I drive through heavy winter storms all the time, so this was a damned big deal for me to decide not to head to Denver.

BOY, did I make the right decision. (sometimes you just need to listen to that little voice in your head)... !

Live in Lafayette. I left at 6:10 am to make it to Denver by 8:15. Two hours later I was still in Lafayette sitting on 287. Luckily the HMO called a snow emergency which means instead of heading out to the clinic you're schedule for, you show up at the closest clinic to your house and pitch in there. In my case it was within sight of where I was sitting and idling. A quick turn around and I was at work in ten minutes. A few hours later they sent us all home. Yep. It's a nasty one.

3. Send whiskey!

Nah, I'm likely okay, though I am at the end of the whiskey. I went through this last bottle unusally quickly.

I still have one bottle of wine ( I might have should have started with that and finished with the Jack ) and more than enough cannabis. Tomorrow is supposed to be 50(?) so lots of melty-sloppy.

I'll be able to get more booze then.

I think Aurora is past the worst, so I'll say maybe six inches for me? I don't really know how to measure. 2 at the lowest points, maybe 8-10 where it drifted.

I don't have to be out in it at all, so I'm happily not.

It' looks like it has slacked up here. And the shoveled areas on the pavement are wet with melting snow. Think of all this great H2O we're getting.

roads in town were fine and i opened shop at 8. our aurora location lost power and closed around ten and i only had four people on my shift. we're running second shift now but no one is getting dinged for not coming in today. our supervisors live north of wellington or out in ault and none of them could make it in, so my boss and i just handled everything today.

I mean there was NO. MOVING. on 287 this morning; it was a parking lot. Hope your supervisors remember your devotion.

there are times you guys get snowed in and we're in shorts.

i do more project management than production/office management at this point, but i was the one who decided yesterday to start an hour early today, so it was my responsibility to open shop. my supervisory crew knows i bust my ass so they bust their asses for me.

I respect my supervisors a lot. I know they appreciate me and I try to go the extra mile, too.

When I walked my dog at 4:30 AM, the snow was blowing like glass shards in both of our eyes.

Where's your shop?
