Disgruntled ex-soldiers returned home and were indoctrinated by White Supremacy groups and a book called the Turner Diaries (?) which promoted starting a race war by attacking a government building.

So, assuming there are white supremacists out there willing to conduct such an action, the FBI infiltrated the group(s) and gave them enough rope to hang themselves.

It was a 101 course into domestic terrorism groups. You learn basic truths about these organizations. i.e. they don't all get to point B with the same foundation.

they showed a scene that seemed pretty intense but I didn't see enough of it to know what movie it was.

I can't remember what show it was he was on but it certainly wasn't a mainstream news or entertainment show. At least, not on any of the big networks.

That kid can act though. I'll probably get it on Blu-ray or Netflix.
