(130,865 posts)Sorry, couldn't resist! It's been YEARS since I visited London or Berlin (OR Rome!) but others will probably offer suggestions. Enjoy!
Long ago I had a price fixe lunch at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Rome. Mutiple courses of wonderful food and a bottle of wine all included at a bargain price. And even their ordinary table wine was superb.
Apart from Rome, the monks at Orvieto served us a wonderful dinner accompanied by the wine they made themselves from their vineyards. I had two cases shipped home and kicked myself for not ordering more.

(53,339 posts)The best French restaurant I found was in Great Falls, Virginia. A French family opened L'Auberge Chez Francois there after moving from D.C. It's out in the country, away from D.C., but thrives because of its excellence.
Who needs to go to France, anyway?

(130,865 posts)from my/our various visits, but never had a bad meal there either. OH, there's the little place in Paris when daughter tried my escargots, and asked for another order of her own. She was about 6 years old at the time!
I've never made it to L'Auberge! Don't do Virginia often, OR way out of budget places.

Actually, he was also in London on spring break last March, so he might have something to suggest there, too.
We were in London two years ago and everything was very expensive.
I have found some great restaurants when traveling using Trip Advisor https://www.tripadvisor.com/

(168 posts)Berlin has the largest Turkish population outside of Turkey! And a personal recommendation: Mar y Sol, a tapas restaurant near Savignyplatz in Charlottenburg - very good!

(1,232 posts)nearly without exception unless I'm doing sushi. Sometimes I hit up China town but that's hit and miss. I never eat on the high street and seek out eateries with a certain look of care and hygiene...
Pub food ROCKS. Stick to proper pubs, not plastic pop ups, and get the fish n chips, and best of all, find one serving proper Sunday roast dinner. Whitebait is lovely, with dipping sauce.... ooooo haven't had that in a while! Try a bacon butty, try a fry up at mid day, you won't have to eat any more once you've had that.
Don't bother eating in Berlin. Drink beer instead. Seriously, not even kidding. Mostly they've got this currywurst thing, just don't do it. Proper schnitzel is nearly impossible to find, and they've got lots of meatballs and boiled potatoes. Germany isn't known for its cuisine.
And no offense, but I avoid referrals from TripAdvisor, for the most part. Most tourists are, well, just tourists. As a proper snob, I prefer to get my referrals from locals or the elite of food and traveling.. Not from people who look like they're going camping when having a holiday in a posh city.
Berlin is very dangerous right now, so be careful and cautious in public places. Don't be too American, if you know what I mean. It's got a serious problems with a radical conservative middle eastern presence that's fomenting its hatred of all things western. Sorry to be a buzzkill.... it's just not the best place to be these days. It'll be ok to be paranoid.

(20,679 posts)Rule of thumb: Never eat right on a famous street or square or in a famous restaurant. Have a drink there and go around to a side street where it's a local clientel.
If you see 4 places in one area with the same kind of food, choose the busiest one. Ignore any place that's empty.
Trip advisor is god.
Berlin: wurst is sausage, but there are dozens of kinds. And they're best from a street vendor. Get the schnitzle. Fab.

(14,737 posts)I went on a day out in Liverpool last year. One pub with very good TripAdvisor reviews was atrocious, another with absolutely dreadful reviews was really enjoyable. I just don't think it's a reliable guide. Too many people on there with agendas.

(31,384 posts)has responded and has two restaurants to recommend in Berlin.
The first is a Vietnamese Restaurant, Mamay, http://www.mamay-berlin.de/
in Prenzlauerberg, in the northeast of the inner city.
The 2nd place he recommends does require a reservation is an Italian restaurant,
Lavanderia Vecchia https://lavanderiavecchia.wordpress.com/
Go to Germany to eat Vietnamese and Italian food. That's hilarious.

(31,384 posts)and I didn't come away wanting to recommend German food.
You can, however, go in the grocery store and buy beer by single bottles. Bring your own shopping bags.

(17,339 posts)It's pricey but worth it.
Get the bone marrow with parsley salad as a starter.
Or try Ottolenghi in Spitalfields. A friend just ate there and said it was wonderful.
Also pricey.
Pub food? The Boot and Flogger in Red Cross Way EC1. A Davy's wine bar. Champagne by the pint and ½ pint and great cheese.

(14,737 posts)The best London pub I've been in is the Southampton Arms in Kentish Town but I've never eaten there.
