I probably should have been more specific, because I don't think our generation on down does it any more. I mean, outside of reading Dr. Seuss books to our kids.

There are poetry slams and recitations at several venues, and not just in Real Life (soi-disant), but in MMO worlds such as Second Life. There are a number of DUers who visit smoky cafes for poetic recitations (bongos optional). And through the wonders of email, one can even "recite" poetry to acquaintances halfway around the world.

As for more intimate venues, I rather expect that there is no perversion of nature some couple or group doesn't indulge, even reciting poetry to each other. I just hope they take appropriate precautions.

The Arctic trails have their secret tales that would make your blood run cold
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights but the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge where I cremated Sam McGee

Now Sam McGee was from Tennessee...

...in Yosemite many years ago.

It was unforgettable, since he had a strange hat. His point was that it was a "tall tale," and people used to think that the Redwoods were tall tales.

My mother used to read that poem to me when I was a child. I loved it.

I'm not sure that qualifies as "poetry" but we sure enjoyed it.

A two-L llama is a beast
And I will bet my silk pajama
There isn't any three-l lllama.

Should you behold a panther crouch.
Prepare to say ouch.
Better yet, if called upon by a panther,
Don't anther.

Oh for crying out loud, I was away from the keyboard working on projects.

Might be hard to believe based on my post count but I have a drive-by posting habit. Run in, rest my tired feet for a while, and then run out. Oddly, I'm most productive when hubby is traveling because I don't have to stop for dinner. And today I was really in heaven because I finished a big project in one day!!

Really enjoy the responses to this thread. And thank you for the kind comments!

If I don't know a person well, I will try to inject bits of lyrics into the conversation.

It makes me feel less self~conscience and that I have some control over the flow.

A nice romantic evening, had her sit in my lap and read her favorite poem. She grew up in a family that wasn't predisposed to displays of affection, either physical or verbal. Getting her to do so, was an arduous task. Fortunately she had her weaknesses, for example poetry or obscure words (she was a walking dictionary).
