Planes that changed the world: The Douglas DC-3/C-47/Gooney Bird/Thuh Goon

I have 9.5 hours of Gooney co-pilot time in my official DD form-whatever USAF flight record.
I sat in the right seat so a general (left seat) could log enough monthly hours to keep getting his flight pay.
I raised and lowered the gear and flaps.
He did all the rest.

I think I'm prouder of those hours in a historically important aircraft than the ones I logged in a dozen or so years in the 747.

Flight was from KC to B'ham.
Lost an engine around Chattanooga (?) and landed at Huntsville, AL.
Rented a car and drove to B'ham.
Fun.

I always thought the Super Connie was the ultimate "game changer" of the prop world, but my knowledge of aviation doesn't really go earlier than the 1950s...

I am surprised American was the launch customer and not TWA...
