AVENEL, N.J. (AP) — Federal labor officials have cited five companies connected to operations at a New Jersey-based Amazon packaging facility for serious violations following the death of a worker.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Thursday that the contractor responsible for operating the facility in Avenel and four temporary staffing agencies were cited in the death of temporary worker Ronald Smith.

Smith died from injuries sustained Dec. 4 after he was caught in between a conveyor system and crushed while performing sorting operations.

are another way for corporations to dodge responsibility for employee costs, decent pay and safe work conditions. It's even a way to dodge responsibility for utilizing undocumented workers.

Walmart was nailed a few years ago for hiring outside services for after-hours janitorial work which was performed at intensive work levels and very low direct wages to employees for temp services that relied exclusively on undocumented workers.
