This is Noam on Banjo playing his interpretation of Kenny Baker's fiddle interpretation of Bill Monroe's mandolin melodies
Kenny's version of Monroe's Hornpipe
Bill's 1958 song that started this ruckus

(13,182 posts)Adapting the music to make it work.
40 years later, Noam reworked the songs so that he could play Kenny's fiddle parts on the banjo.
Which is actually a very different piece of music than if he had just adapted Bill Monroe's mandolin part to the banjo.

(9,945 posts)is that Noam Pikelny is a heckuva name for a bluegrass musician! But I cut my teeth on bluegrass in Madison, WI, at a little place called Glen and Ann's....

My ex was a bluegrass fan, and played 5 string and guitar. He later acquired a dobro which is my favorite part of a bluegrass band.
Seeing Monroe and the Boys in live concert was amazing. If you knew where to go you could walk into all sorts of concerts during DJ Convention. We went to the bluegrass event 2 years, at the old Ryman. Monroe, Lester Flatt, Stanley Brothers, Seldom Scene, Jim and Jesse, and Marty Stuart when he was just a kid.
