They stop in to munch on our butterfly bush (more like a tree). The numbers were really down this year. I'm concerned.

I don't recall where I read about it but they are lower in numbers currently. Has to do with both drought/rainfall/herbicides. Fewer migrating to Mexico for winter.

We get them here but it's gotten to be rare to see one.

... of the caterpillars on our parsley plants. It isn't even related to milkweed, and you can't mistake a monarch for any other kind of caterpillar. They don't have a clone species other than the viceroy and their caterpillars are completely different in appearance. The caterpillars get huge eating the parsley but we've never found a cocoon on any of the plants. It's sort of confusing.

It would take a little hunting. They're all named DSCNxxxx.JPG. All of our cameras are Nikons. I'll try to hunt one up this weekend. I can at least isolate them based on date - the caterpillars are basically a July to August thing around here.

Picking up a camera has opened up all manner of new experiences for me.

And I do enjoy nature magazines. Love the photos especially.

Thank you, Celebration.
