Related: About this forum*****POLL FOR THE APRIL THEME*******
ivce created a poll for the april theme
here are the 3 choices
action--- could be sports, dance, etc just something that conveys action
long exposure--- something that requires an exposure longer than 1/4 second or so
after dark---- any exposure taken after twilight ends.... this would allow the use of flash if you wish however i would want the photo to clearly be taken after dark
i set the poll to run for 1 week but i do plan on ending it earlier, especially if there is a clear favorite

(18,619 posts)Probably because I never learned how to take time exposures growing up using expensive film. I imagined it a trial & error art for those who didn't have to pay the Fotomat for a $5 stack of unviewable prints.
When I see a great night exposure I consider it black magic and suspect the photographer of links to the underworld.
I can always freeze action, and if it comes out blurred I'll call it art. Unfortunately, there's little action around here this time of year and all the choices seem to be outdoor themes. Certainly I don't stir much until spring.
LOL

on edit:
I see the people have spoken, so I'll make do with something. Fortunately I don't take defeat to heart.

(22,380 posts)not only have i never seen this many votes, singularly or collectively, for such a poll, but now it is tied again.
Each time I look and ponder it's either number one or number three I would prefer, so I have not voted, and decided the chips can fall and make the decision.
Too funny.

(22,380 posts)even in case of a tie you cannot enter a photo.

(14,887 posts)making a choice although I'm leaning towards after dark simply b/c I'm not very good at night shots and I need the practice.
As stated above, flash is allowed as long as it's clear that the photo was taken at night, but what about an indoor shot at night?
Took this during a concert on Wednesday - at night - no flash. No, it's not the "money" shot, but I'm using it as an example.

(5,113 posts)its not obvious it was taken at night. if there was a window and you could see street lights then it would be ok
heres an example of what i consider obvious;y night

If I'd had better equipment (camera-wise!) I'd have taken nite shots as well as timed exposures like I used to do decades ago.
Note to self
buy a real camera -
I can afford one now.

(22,380 posts)I remembered an action shot I took (rare) that I love (even more rare) but had put it out of my mind, because at the time the person I photographed did not allow me to show it to you.
I decided to beg.
