With a photo taken in 2009 when we were in Peru. And I was inspired to go back to it by the Dixie Chicks song titled
"Wide Open Spaces"

Here are the lyrics:

"Wide Open Spaces"

Who doesn't know what I'm talking about
Who's never left home, who's never struck out
To find a dream and a life of their own
A place in the clouds, a foundation of stone

Many precede and many will follow
A young girl's dream no longer hollow
It takes the shape of a place out west
But what it holds for her, she hasn't yet guessed

[Chorus:]
She needs wide open spaces
Room to make her big mistakes
She needs new faces
She knows the high stakes

She traveled this road as a child
Wide eyed and grinning, she never tired
But now she won't be coming back with the rest
If these are life's lessons, she'll take this test

[Repeat Chorus]
She knows the high stakes

As her folks drive away, her dad yells, "Check the oil!"
Mom stares out the window and says, "I'm leaving my girl"
She said, "It didn't seem like that long ago"
When she stood there and let her own folks know

[Repeat Chorus]
She knows the highest stakes
She knows the highest stakes
She knows the highest stakes
She knows the highest stakes

And the song:

2. GRAND- Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu

Beautiful photo of a huge and wide open space. Seeing it is dying a little death, isn't it?
I was 28 when I was there and tried to climb Huayna Picchu and got too scared at some of the mountain hugging narrow paths. I had to turn back. But I did walk down from Machu Picchu itself, disregarding that it was the jungle, because going down on the switchback serpentine road on a bus filled with folks holding on to farm animals was not my speed either.
I've grown up a bit since.

Thanks for this wonderful depiction.

It was really, really hot the day we were there in November (late spring for them). Hubby went back after lunch for more
exploration, photos, but I had to quit and go back to the hotel--via our private bus so at least I didn't have to sit
with the farm animals!

I think it's the same range from this one that I took in 1972 (I used to use only slide film, so this is a reprint from that to a CD)

Yours, too! And, yes, I can see that same mesa from mine in your photo!
I have not traveled that road since 1972. So good to see it again!

I think that Dyedinthewoolliberal's "Wyoming Morning" is so similar to my "November Morn on Doudy Draw," it's eerie. Different mountain, same day.

We spent about 6 hours on Antelope Island last Sept. It was HOT!! In the high 90s at time and it was very windy. This is another shot from the same day. That's not mist, it's dust! Even so, it was a spectacular place.

RichardD - that is a beautifully done black and white photo. It has great tonal range and depth of field. Well done.

I love black and white. For me ir captures the feeling of the space sometimes better than color, which seems to capture more of the visual beauty.
