The December Photo Contest ... edited content (12/02/14)

Last edited Tue Dec 2, 2014, 07:55 AM - Edit history (1)

First off I'd like to say that I am flattered that I won last month's contest. With trepidation and humility, I accept my role as the host of the December contest

I have had in the back of my mind a theme for a long time and now you all have to face the consequences.

The contest will be a still life that you create and photograph.

The theme will be "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue"

I thought still life would be good as it affords the chance to create and take many shots before picking your favorite. As per usual, please keep post processing to a minimum. Similar to using, perhaps, a warming or softening filter on the camera or adjusting contrast or color casts. Size of entry should be no larger than 800 pixels in its longest dimension and under 300K in file size.

It will be prelims December 17 - 19, finals December 20 - 22.

I will start a post to show entries on December 10.

Please send me your entries via DU mail. This will be an anonymous entrant contest. As such, you may send entries to me at any time between now and December 16. I will be posting more as we get closer to start dates and deadline dates.

Edit to post and slight change of criteria

I received a pm expressing concern about the theme. After consideration, the theme will remain the same. The criteria will be that an entry only needs to meet one of the 4: old, new, borrowed, blue. If you wish to combine and have more, then go for it.

Also mail entries to my DU mail.

Glad to see the criteria revised. It's a busy time of year for me--and probably for many others-- mnhtnbb Dec 2014 #5

Hint: you don't need to have 4 objects and you can have more than 4 objects

Info: the subject of your entry is the title

Some examples:

Borrowed Antique Blue Vase with New Roses

New Blue Guitar on an old, borrowed Table

Go, go go ... let your imaginations run wild ... and have fun

I've never heard it referred to as "mail" in the 10 years I've been on the site. But whatever.

so while it's a fun idea, it takes a lot of thought to compose a still life.

I just so happen to have done one some time ago that I will submit. Otherwise,
I think I would have to pass this month.

damn! You changed it. For the easier, for sure.
I actually had pondered how to combine the criteria and come up with something and I had had only one single (lousy) idea with no clue how to make it a good photograph.
Now it's a lot simpler, and I appreciate that.
I think in the original version we might have not had enough entries.....

Onward and Upward
