Chateau Montelena

When I pulled into the parking area, this is the first thing I saw. An electric charging station. How cool is that?

Montelena is a faux french chateau built into the hillside. It's impossible to get a shot of the facade without splicing several together.

Aside from great wine (their Chardonnay won the 1976 Paris tasting), their great claim to fame is the lake.

Complete with swans.

And a few ducks.

You can picnic on the islands or at the edge, but call well in advance to make reservations to do so. Even on this crisp December day, the gazebos were spoken for.

You get to the islands and gazebos by way of the crooked bridges.

And just for the heck of it, some hangers-on.

Disclaimer: There are only two gazebos and two bridges. I got carried away with the reflections.

Once you have a good subject, stick with it! I never regret having too many pictures of the same subject, and often regret not having enough! With landscapes you can always get different perspectives. With birds, not so much.

What a pretty winery...Chateau Montelena is definitely on my list to visit. The first wine of theirs I ever tasted was a 1992 Cab, and it was amazing.

Thanks for sharing!

Be sure and try the Zin and the Riesling.

I went to a "clean out the wine cellar of old whites" tasting once. Out of all the miscellaneous whites the oldest was a 20-year-old Montelena Riesling. It won our informal taste test—and there were some pretty refined palates there.
