(25,391 posts)I was leaving this Saturday for the drive to Idaho, but the 18" of snow at the lookout (10,000 feet elevation) yesterday and Sunday is pushing things into July. I'll probably start driving about 6/17 now.

(86,336 posts)The spot you'll be at isn't far from where all those earthquakes are... they're still going on. I see the place isn't on a stand so I feel like you'll be okay there. That's one of the best parts of the lower 48, imo, do enjoy the wolves singing at night, I miss that since I moved. The meadows have spectacular wildflowers through July. I can't wait to see your photos from there.

(3,709 posts)When I was in elementary school, we had to put together scrap books for each section of the country for geography class. I remember to this day the photos that my dad helped me find of the Painted Hills. This image brought a rush of fond memories. Stunning photograph!

(1,786 posts)is where I saw the eclipse in August 2017, For those that don't know, John Day Fossil Beds is composed of three different regions.
