Related: About this forumI have an armadillo destroying my yard, so I put a live trap out to catch and re-locate.
After letting one of the many neighborhood cats go, the next day I come out and find an opossum. Probably the ugliest critter in woods. Anyway never let an opportunity go by, so . . .
This is my demure face
and this is my scary face
They're nice to have around. They eat bugs and ticks and just about anything else they find but they don't dig up the yard in search of grubs and earthworms so I just let him go.

(15,380 posts)Some fellow residents of an apartment complex and I put put out humane traps to catch stray cats so we could get them spayed/neutered, and I caught a big one of these. He wasn't very happy but wouldn't leave the trap until I threw a couple of cups of cold water on him for encouragement.

(2,565 posts)We had a family of them move into our basement in our old house. It's a long story, with lots of fun moments, but I learned a lot about them and now I love them. Just not in the house!

(14,559 posts)I like the hands and prehensile tail. Getting him out of the cage was a challenge, first peel one hand off the cage, then the second third and fourth. Lather rinse and repeat until he's out. Rub your finger along the last few inches of tail and it will curl around your finger so you can carry them anywhere you want. They make an ugly snarling face and will occasionally lunge at you but never make contact, it's all empty threat. They drool a bit too, not the most attractive pose but he got really upset when I tried to pat his lower lip dry. Same with trying to brush his hair out. It just wasn't worth the the stress I put on him and no amount of brushing made any difference to the spiky hair style.

(6,581 posts)Eeeek, looks like it's snarling in the second photo. But they're kind of cute... in an Addams Family sort of way. Hope you get the Armadillo.

(3,626 posts)Shipped water into several houses, covered the streets, and totally immersed the little drainage feature that runs behind our house. One of these poor guys was standing all exposed in the open dayllight on the telephone wire, looking down at the water in bewilderment as if to ask "Why, God, Why?"

(15,936 posts)We have a trio that come by our backyard deck to steal the kitties food. We had made a shelving unit to reach our kitchen windows for our kitties to visit us. We have been feeding them up there, and now if any food is left the opossums will swing by for a little snack. We found one the other day in the garbage can, poor thing was looking for something to eat and got trapped. We turned the can over so he could escape.
I'd love to photograph the ones at the kitchen window but the reflections from the indoors obscures the image.
Good shots of the baby!
