I've been using The Photographer's Ephemeris for some time now. It's free at the Playstore or Apple store. It gives moon/sun rise times and direction. Go forward or back in time, change locations and set up your shot in advance. It's also good for setting up a hide for wildlife; helps predict light direction at the time your subject is likely to be available. They have a web page that is supported b ads/sales but it's still free so I assume there may be some data mining as well. That said my identity is out there and has been for so long I don't think there's anything left for me to give away . Besides every now and then I wish someone would steal my identity so I wouldn't have to be me anymore

(1 post)Hey - thanks for the shout out for The Photographer's Ephemeris Thought I should post a reply to clarify a couple of things: the mobile apps aren't free, unfortunately - that's how we pay the bills. The web app is free to use, and there is an optional paid premium plan for extra features. Please check out our Privacy policy for how we use data - we don't share it with any third parties for commercial gain, but do log some information to understand internally how the product is being used and to provide customer support, but that's all. Hope you continue to find it useful in your photography! - Stephen

(14,559 posts)the best thing since Betty White (she predates sliced bread ).
I've had it so long that I don't remember buying it for my android phone but looking at it again it seems I did purchase it. At less than a Starbucks coffee I forgot I'd actually spent money on it. I've used it on my PC to plan trips and times to be on site so I can be in the right place at dawn.
Thanks for the response and my apologies for the misinformation.
