We have these bushes as a hedge against the back border of our lot. Anyone trying to climb the fence back there is in for a nasty surprise!

The flowers and their incredible scent make up for that.

I'd like something like that for my place. Unfortunately the deer would eat it to the ground.

I'm seriously considering cultivating Bull Nettle for the front yard. It blooms from early spring through summer and ain't nothin' gonna' eat that! Or even get close to it.

Would they eat it with the spines? Those are unbelievably sharp and they are everywhere!

Bull Nettle sounds like a much more tenacious plant. Nettles have a fearsome reputation, IIRC.

I don't seem to usually notice when there are fruits, so the birds probably get them. Maybe the squirrels too.

I'm glad to let the wild creatures have the bounty.
