The making of a photograph.

Not a bad shot but check out the original.

And the new perch.

This may not be the actual background used but was shot at the same time of the same tree.

The composition lacked something so I went back and added the leaf.

I'm not really that good at post, just got lucky with a pose that was easy to isolate. Bottom line is do not accept what you see at face value without the image data!

I had no idea that these component parts went together, until I got to the last photo.

Wow, well done.

I try to get it right in camera mostly because of a long history of K64. Ya' can't do this with transparency film!

It's not something I do a lot of because I never liked darkroom work or post processing. See it as a necessary evil but this pose was too much to let go of; lighting, eye contact and body language was all just too nice. It was worth the hour or so in PaintShop Pro.

Been a while since I tried it, but I remember PhotoShopping that required "cutting" something out like that was a real pain. Sorry if it's a stupid question.

You can change anti alias to blend the edges between layers. The 2020 version of PaintShopPro is a lot easier to work with than this (2019) version with fine adjustments on the select brush. Supposedly the 2021 version uses AI to clean up the fine details on the selection edges but I can't learn as fast as they improve so I'm just gonna rock steady for awhile.

But the real key is to match light direction and quality and then simulate shadows.

I use PaintShopPro because I can own it. Download to hard drive and no monthly fees. Upgrade when I feel like it. I have no interest in PSP and am not associated with the company in any way, it's just the software I got started with, is relatively cheap (big bonus for me) and relatively user friendly (as if any photo editing software is 'user friendly' HA!).

Ain't no stupid questions, just snotty answers . . .

I don't know PaintShopPro, but if I were buying, I'd definitely want a program I could dl to my hd (can't imagine going all online for any of my major finance, office, or other main programs, for many reasons) and that was relatively inexpensive.

I only have a very old version of PhotoShop from my days working on my Instructional Tech and Design degree. No, of course I didn't use the warez pw-generator everyone was using to activate the shared version circulating among class members because no one could afford to buy it.

Damn, I must be waaaaaaay out of practice because I looked for how you handled shadows on the composite and thought you'd been smart to use components with diffused light that didn't create or require any shadows to worry about! Guess I'd better get back into it before I forget everything. I hate losing skills and knowledge I once had.
