cicada husk

These insects live 17 years underground and at maturity have no mouth parts so they only live a short time, just long enough to have sex and preserve the species.

I wonder how many had a parking lot built over them in that 17 years. What a disappointment.

What a life cycle the cicada has! I can't imagine being in a state of suspended animation for a month, never mind 17 years.

And then to have to dig its way out from whatever is overhead? Without eating? With only a day or two to reproduce?

Great photo. The creature that shed it may already be dead.

We will remember it.

deferred gratification is fine as long as there is gratification. What a bummer to run into asphalt on your way to an orgy . . .

I've never seen anything like it.

But, with their 17 year suspended animation means they missed 5/8ths of W's reign of error and almost all of Trumps! I betcha' they were glad to be cicadas!
