i wanted to try some star trails. but i live in the city so an extremely long exposure wont work. so how about a lot of short exposures added together.
heres the results
100 30 second exposures. f2.8 iso 100

next one is 100 15 second exposures f 5.6 iso 800

ill have to try again in a darker location. also ill have to see if i can set my camera to take more than 100 exposures austomatically.
but this was my first crack at this

(208 posts)Stacking of images is fairly common with wide-field as well as deep sky.
Did you stack with layers, or use dedicated stacking software?
Did you post process prior to stacking?
Best thing about hitting star trails, is, you also record the variations of star color.
Go get some more.

(5,113 posts)i found a free stacking program for macs online.
i did no processing before stacking. all I did was toss out a couple of images that had airplanes crossing the sky. now that I know whats possible im going to try more
my next plan many more images. im going to try 15 second exposures, maybe 3 hundred or so pointed in the vicinity of polaris.it wil have to be kind of a guess since polaris isnt naked eye visible at my house due to light pollution
my camera allows 100 continuos exposures automaticall. and at 15 sec exposures thats 25 minutes. so as long as i go out every 25 minutes to reclick the shutter I should be good
The result will be nice to see.
Don't forget to charge the battery.
I run DeepSkyStacker and RegiStax6. Type of photo dictates which one.
