Wednesday reminder and Chaneni reopening

This is my twice a month reminder that St. Stephen's food bank is open each Wednesday 9 to noon. You will need picture identification and a face mask to pick up a box of food. St. Stephen's is located on N. 56th St and East Oak.

Chaneni House is trying to reopen but unlike St. Stephen's relies only on its congragation and is not affiliated with any of the major food banks. Chaneni is operated by FBCScottsdale and is located N. 70th St. and East Osborn. I am going to try to be one of the volunteers to pick up food for the church.

Opening Chaneni House

We are excited to reopen Chaneni, even though it will be only to hand out food bags. Right now we expect to have grocery bags available from 10 to 12 on July 20, 22, and 24. After that we will be open from 10 to 12 on first and third Saturdays, beginning with August 1 and 15. Many of our clients live in zip codes where the virus has really spiked, and we know these families need our help.

Our biggest problem will be stocking enough food. Cash donations are always helpful but do not solve our biggest challenge. The person who has done the biggest share of the shopping for years is no longer available. I have been able to fill in using Walmart pick up, but that is not too successful in this new reality. Walmart have been filling only about 10% of the items ordered.

There at least 3 ways that you can be a big help.
1. Any time you go to the store, consider picking up a few items. Boxed cereal, peanut butter, and canned tuna are on our list of needs now.
2. Consider becoming one of our special shoppers, If you could help in this way, let's talk about it! That would be ideal!
3. Volunteer to pick up online orders from Walmart. I will continue to place these orders, but I need drivers to pick them up and deliver them to the church. If you would like to do this, please let me know!

For those who are interested, this is a list of the items we need to shop for:

Boxed cereal
Canned green beans and corn
Canned tuna
Canned fruit
Boxes of mac and cheese
Peanut butter
Spaghetti noodles
Pasta sauce
Flat packs of ramen noodles
Bottled water

Thank each of you for your interest in Chaneni House and for your help in feeding the hungry.
