Arkansas youths have lowest knowledge of Holocaust in America, study shows

An alarming new survey found that Arkansas was the state with the lowest amount of millennials and Gen Zs with knowledge on the Holocaust, with only 17% meeting the knowledge criteria.

Almost 70% of those surveyed in the state did not know that six million Jews were murdered during the Holocaust, and 40% could not name a single concentration camp despite the fact that there were more than 40,000 of them.

Wisconsin had the highest in Holocaust awareness among U.S. Millennials and Gen Z, Arkansas has the lowest Holocaust knowledge score1, with less than 2-in-10 (17 percent) of Millennials and Gen Z meeting the Holocaust knowledge criteria.

Considering that I don't think that during my school time (60's) that more than 5 minutes was spent on the holocaust, I think the answers were quite good.

mostly got the answers correct.

Went to HS in late 1970s and for some reason (student must have made a comment overheard by teacher) in American History, we were shown films from when concentration camps were liberated and films of prisoners by the nazi's were confiscated.

Jeez, I'll never forget those films, especially since we were studying US History 1860-1880. He never gave us one shred of context as to why we were shown the films. After a couple of days, we went back to US western expansion of west US.

Alabama: “Thank God for Mississippi!”

Today in Mississippi it’s “Thank God for Arkansas!”

When I was a child the civil war was 90 years earlier and. I knew very little about it. To me it was ancient history, like the Middle Ages.

The young former coworker who didn't know the USA fought Germany during WW2, and who told me that she thought "the Germans only went to war against the Jews", went to school in Texas. Looks like they generally didn't do well either.
