Related: About this forumOther Democrats than Grayson and Murphy running in the Senate primary
Cross posted from another thread:
Roque "Rocky" De La Fuenta, Pam Keith and Reginal Luster are running as well as the two headliners.
Grayson has worn out his chances and I don't want to vote for RINO Murphy so today I checked out the other three people running.
I've decided to vote for Reginald Luster in the primary. He has an impressive resume and I like what he has worked to support:
In 1988, Reginald returned to Jacksonville to begin his legal career as an associate attorney, and eventual law partner, with the Jacksonville insurance defense law firm of Mathews, Osborne, McNatt, Gobelman & Cobb. U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno appointed him as an assistant United States attorney with the United States Attorneys Office, Middle District of Florida, Jacksonville Division in 1994. He represented the federal government, agencies and employees in complex civil litigation. In 2000, Reginald worked at the Justice Department in Washington D.C. with the Civil Rights Division of the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys. U.S. Attorney General Reno awarded Reginald the Directors Award for Outstanding Achievement in Furthering Equal Employment Opportunity.
In 2001, Reginald Luster returned to the private practice of law. He practices law in the areas of personal injury law, wrongful death law, insurance law, employment discrimination law and criminal defense law. He was invited to join the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2007. He also holds professional membership in the Jacksonville Bar Association and the D. W. Perkins Bar Association. In addition to his law practice, Reginald serves as a board member on charitable foundations providing college scholarships to graduating high school students.
On May 3, 2016, during an annual scholarship awards ceremony to High Potential students, Reginald delivered A Call to Leadership in Public Service announcing his candidacy for United States Senator from the State of Florida.

Since the powers that be are supporting Murphy, I expect him to win the primary and I will vote for the Democratic candidate in the general election. But I'd like the Florida and National Democratic Party to know that not everyone will jump on the bandwagon for whoever they prop up for us to elect!

(4,762 posts)Really? Didn't he start his own party? He just quit running for president too.
He is a strange bird indeed. His followers seem as culty as LaRuouchies.
I suspect it's gonna be Murphy. I find Grayson unacceptable on character grounds alone.
Rubio should be able to trounce any of them, unfortunately. However it might depend how bad the Zika crisis gets. That cuts across party lines and younger women (including upper middle class women in the GOP base) in particular are starting to panic about it, justifiably so. So Rubio's re cent reiteration of opposition to abortion even for Zika-infected pregnant women is not going to sit well with his moderate republican suburban professional base if Zika gets out of hand.
I suspect Zika has not been factored in to this election yet.

I just got my sample ballot and as usual researched all the choices I can vote for. In the Democratic Senate Primary, I like Luster the best so I'll vote for him in the primary.
In the General Election I am hoping that the anti-Congress sentiment will help people decide to vote against incumbents. That would unseat a lot of Republicans and give us a chance to get more Democrats in place.
Previously I'd said that for Congress, either Corrine Brown or Al Lawson was fine by me. Brown has some serious problems with her indictments and has an uphill battle between that and the complete shifting of her district. Lawson has been State Representative for this area for a while and has done his best in a Republican dominated legislature. I'm going to vote for Lawson in the primary.
(My US Rep. was Gwen Graham but the redistricting gutted the Democratic portion of her area in District 5. She's not running for re-election. There have been rumors she might run for governor and follow in her father's (Bob Graham) footsteps.
The only other state level race is for the State Attorney, 2nd Judicial Court. That's between Jack Campbell who has been a strong part of the office for a long time or Sean Desmond who worked for the office twice, left twice and had a failed private practice in between. I'll go for Campbell since he seems more competent.
The local races are usually easy to pick - and if it is a toss up, I vote for the woman when possible (so does my husband).

(5,932 posts)As far as education policy goes, I like Murphy's.
Patrick opposes so-called reform that would divert money away from public schools and weaken public education. Instead, he supports strengthening public schools by providing additional support and services including early childhood, youth development, and family engagement.
Overall, I'm leaning toward Luster or Keith, but it doesn't appear either has a chance. Murphy looks to have the best chance (a slim chance right now) of beating Rubio. Grayson? Too much baggage.

(34,131 posts)As I said, I'll vote for Luster in the primary, then for the Democratic candidate in the general. It will probably be Murphy.
You're right about Grayson - too much crap has surfaced from his personal life. Plus with Florida voters, he wouldn't have much chance of beating Rubio. I'd love to kick that little twerp out of the Senate!
