Mail voting expected to 'explode' in Florida as coronavirus reshapes 2020 elections

In Florida, a state where the steady rise of mail voting has dramatically transformed the campaign season over the last 20 years, the novel coronavirus could fast-forward the evolution of elections.

Elections offices in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties — home to more than a quarter of Florida’s 13.2 million voters — are preparing to send vote-by-mail registration forms to every voter in those counties amid worries that the virus will disrupt in-person voting this summer and fall.

Elections supervisors and political organizations around the state asked Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis weeks ago to provide flexibility under state law to help them administer the upcoming elections. They’re still waiting for an answer, and in the meantime are widely encouraging voting at home — even as President Donald Trump, a Florida resident, has called for restrictions.

“My push for vote by mail isn’t political in any way,” said Wendy Sartory Link, elections supervisor in Palm Beach County, Trump’s home county. “It’s just safety. It’s a safety-driven measure.”

Has already said,” Anyone who wants to vote absentee will be able to.” It is the wave of the future and we need Democrats to make sure our Postal Service gets the best.

As usual, what is coming out of Trump’s mouth is drivel. I am being nice here!

4. This will be a huge issue in FL because Voldemort's of signature mismatch system.

In 2018 well over 100,000 votes were disqualified by this system for the signature not matching "exactly" the signature on the voting registration. They didn't do this "exacting" process for early voting or in-person voting, just the mail in kind. I wouldn't vote by mail in any state with this voter suppression BS. EArly voting is extremely popular in my state and I pray that continues. I will gear up and vote in person - early - to ensure my vote actually counts and the repugs won't have an excuse to invalidate it. Oh, and the state was supposed to let anyone know whose signature "couldn't be verified" and they could come in and verify their identity. I was working for Fl Dems and calling these people and not one had received the letter from the state - they are fucking lying about this. This is nothing more than a voter suppression tool which disallows the votes of older people at very high levels because our writing changes as we age.

6. I early voted in the primary. I had to sign with a stylus. My signature on the machine was awful.

It looked nothing like my signature on my DL or in the file. I’m sure if so much as the slant of my name didn’t match what is on file had I voted by mail, it would’ve been tossed. This issue must be corrected.

7. It won't be corrected in red states, they will implement it in red states throughout USA.

It did just as they wanted in FL so they will definitely be putting this in elsewhere to ensure our votes don't get counted unless we are willing to risk our lives. Our only hope is early voting.

Over 100,000 votes were disallowed through this process in 2018. Without that, we'd have Nelson as FL Senator and Gillum as governor. Don't trust any state that implements this awful program.
