Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Friday in Jacksonville that Florida would allow organized activities for children, including summer camps and youth sports, effective immediately.

However, the Republican governor said he would not preempt municipalities from making their own rules. No official executive order had been issued by DeSantis as of Friday morning.

DeSantis, speaking at a news conference, noted that children are much less likely to face serious consequences from the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19. In Florida, five in six coronavirus deaths have come from people 65 and over.

“We believe that this makes sense based on the data and observed experience. We are not going to be instituting a lot of rules, or really any rules,” DeSantis said. “At the end of the day, we trust parents to be able to make decisions in conjunction with physicians.”

Very few wear masks and don’t care about infecting others. I will never feel safe here again. I already get super anxious when I have to go to the office to pick up materials even though no one is there. For the time being we’re working from home.

which is relatively scary. Walks without a mask but with social distancing and lap swimming outdoors by appointment under what I think are very safe conditions. One of the two pools I go to takes everyone's temperature before they are allowed in. Things here are opening up way too fast though.
