This post has nothing whatsoever to do with politics

Except maybe the politics of big bad businessmen throwing a locally owned, and great, radio station out of business.
19 years ago, Connisseur communications bought out one of the greatest radio stations this area, and maybe even this country, has ever heard, the Pirate FM, KFMH. A lot of us have been in sort of a funk ever since then with no real radio to listen to. Well, fear not ladies and gents, thanks to the wonder of the internet, the mighty KFMH is back!
Last night, some of the DJ's from the olden days gathered both at a station in Iowa City and via Skype, etc, and had a radiothon fundraiser to resurrect the greatest station ever. They needed to raise $25,000 and they did exactly that. So come sometime in May, KFMH will be back. I am REALLY pumped about this because I loved that station. They played tunes that one simply could not hear elsewhere and pulled some crazy stunts, usually against the corporate owned competition.
If you are from eastern Iowa, and of a certain age, you likely remember good old KFMH. Well, now they will be worldwide. They have a facebook page if anyone is interested in updates and/or helping out. I will keep you all updated as well. Hooray for REAL radio!

I was so sad when KFMH changed ownership/format.
They payed album rock - something no other stations did.

Do you know if they'll be in the same location in Muscatine? Will they be 99.7?

In honor of this, please enjoy one of my faves that KFMH used to play:

99.7 is a kidiie station, er, modern pop pap. Captain Steve said they will be up and running sometime in May. They have a facebook page and I imagine if you search for KFMH, something will turn up.
I own that particular ALBUM that you put up there. Yep, I said album. I also have the cd because the lp is somewhat dicey. Tommy Bolin was underrated imo.

Yes indeed, he was part owner of KFMH.
And I'm not sure about 87.7. I don't get that station as far as I know.

and is still vacant all around per the FCC - so in many towns 87.7 has sort of become occupied by some locals.
For a while there was some good stuff on 87.7 in @ Coralville and IC - it sort of travelled.
But if Steve from KCJJ was doing that he could lose his license at KCJJ

Davenport had some stuff on 87.7 also for a while anyway.

Ron Sorenson has his little 95 watt FM station at 99.1 and can be heard around Des Moines, not very far into the suburbs, though (I work in the suburbs, and live even further out). Back in the early 70s he was doing alternative rock around here from commercial stations, but of course that didn't work out.

So, he's once again on the radio, low power, community radio.
They also do streaming on the internet at http://www.kfmg991.org if anyone cares to listen in!

From their website: "KFMG's main musical format is called "Eclectic Triple A" (Adult Album Alternative)."
